National Grid Cross Border Upgrade

The Parish Council was most appreciative of the very large turn-out for this meeting about the National Grid Cross Border Upgrade proposal and the impact it will have if sited close to Moorcock Wood between Blackford and Scaleby Moss (Option A). It highlights the degree of concern felt within our community, and the surrounding area, about the proposals.

The meeting was designed to inform, and thanks are due to Allan Harty who gave a most detailed presentation, receiving and answering questions about the planned scope of the National Grid Upgrade and the implications North Carlisle/Cumbria.

As was made clear at the meeting the need for investment in electricity infrastructure is recognised and supported by all, but there are serious concerns around the quality and level of engagement to date. If Option A is approved, the upgrade would fundamentally transform the character of the area and, when considered alongside other proposed infrastructure developments, would have profound and lasting consequences for future generations.

Libby Bateman, Lib. Dem Candidate for the upcoming Combined Authority Mayoral Elections in May 2027, was also in attendance and agreed to take local objections & views forward.
